THE TEAM.
Foundry is in search of a Lead C++ Software Engineer responsible for managing a small team specialising in maintaining and extending the Nuke Team’s cross-platform CMake/Conan build infrastructure, as well as our Python test system and tools.
You will work as part of our Nuke development team and will collaborate closely with other Lead Engineers, Developers and QA engineers in order to gather requirements to help define the project roadmap. You will help to drive the architecture and development of the build and test systems, contributing C++ and Python code, as well as helping to guide and mentor other Engineers with our systems.
You'll line manage the build and test team, ensuring their career development and managing performance where relevant. As the person responsible for their delivery, you'll liaise with stakeholders internally and externally to ensure that tech debt is flagged and resolved, and that prioritisation and allocation of the team is in line with priorities and expectations. You'll ensure the team are happy, motivated, and productive, taking responsibility for hiring decisions in conjunction with the Engineering Manager to ensure team fit, as well as resolving conflict/disagreement where it occurs.
The ideal candidate is the sort of lead or senior that knew their team could make much better use of their tools, and then rolled up their sleeves to push through major build system improvements to the benefit of everyone. You probably care about compiler features and you can often spot a problematic build flag a mile off. You care that an incremental build is as fast as possible to improve C++ iteration times. You understand and care about how libraries, symbols and linkage can affect correctness, build times and symbol clashes, and you appreciate that each OS is different and may need to be handled accordingly.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the team that develops the industry-leading compositing package for the VFX industry. You’ll bring your existing skills, and also learn new ones, as we continuously strive for improvement in software development and deployment.
